Collette

3am_CT_Button1Hi!  It’s Collette from Alberta Speechie.  I’m an SLP from Alberta Canada.  For the last seven years, I’ve been working predominately with young ones (2-6 yrs) with significant communication needs.  It’s fun, at times totally chaotic, and I love it!

I took a long route into the world of Speech Language Pathology but I have always been interested in communication and how important it is to a person’s quality of life. The long and the short of it is, that after college I worked in group homes with children and adults with intellectual challenges, many who were also Deaf or Deaf-Blind.  Throughout this time, the staff worked hard on improving the residences communication skills.  I loved this part of my job and when the opportunity appeared, I went back to school and received my Masters.  I have not looked back.

I had the great honor of having Megan Hodge as one of my professors.  She has so many great quotes.  One of my favorites is “a career in speech-language pathology challenges you to use your intellect (the talents of your mind) in combination with your humanity (the gifts in your heart) to do meaningful work that feeds your soul…I’m proud to be a member of what I consider the best profession on earth.”
